Statement on European social dialogue in the sport sector, 12th Dec. 2012, Brussels

EASE and UNI Europa Sport, the social partners in the European sport sector, concluded the first meeting of a two year test phase for a European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee today in Brussels. The meeting was chaired by Jean-Paul Tricart, the head of the European Commission's social dialogue unit.

In his opening statement, Mr. Tricart welcomed the new committee to "the club" of social dialogue committees. The committee in sport becomes the 41st sectoral social dialogue committee under the purview of the unit.

The structure of the social dialogue incorporates 3 standing committees for the different sub-sectors: not-for-profit sport, active leisure, and professional sport. The programme for the next year will be to hold three working group meetings where the different standing committees will work towards joint statements on priority issues including contracts, health and safety and dual careers. The professional sport standing committee will also address good governance, agents, and anti-doping.
