1st ESSDC plenary meeting in December 2012 in Brussels

EASE and UNI Europa Sport established their informal social dialogue for the sport and active leisure sector in 2003 and have since then developed 3 projects with funding from the European Commission:

- “Building the Social Dialogue in the Sport Sector" BSDSS project (2003-2004) that consisted in a first evaluation of the social dialogue situation in the European Union;

- “Reinforce the representativeness of the social partners in the sport sector: Row the BoaT project”RBT project (2007-2008) that allowed the mapping of existing social partners in the sector in the EU Member States;

- "Moving forward towards European social dialogue in the sport sector: Content and Contact project"CC-project (2008-2009) that focused on themed research and meetings.

EASE and UNI Europa Sport mutually recognised each other in 2008 (RBT project) as European social partners for sports and active leisure and signed 3 more joint statements (CC-project) on:
Minimum requirements of employment contracts -
Health and safety -
European social dialogue -

In addition to this joint process, EASE developed the IMPACT project ("Social dialogue in the sport and active leisure sector: IMPLEMENT, AFFILIATE, CREATE"), which concentrated on EASE capacity building (2010-2011).
As a result of this project, EASE and UNI Europa Sport signed the Joint Statement on the Informal European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for sports and active leisure by EASE and UNI Europa Sport -

After these years of hard work carried out by EASE and UNI Europa Sport, the European Commission will organise in December 2012 in Brussels the first plenary session of the European Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee (ESSDC) for sports and active leisure.

The ESSDC, established by the Decision of the European Commission of 20th May 1998, are the central bodies for consultation, joint initiatives and negotiation. In other words, they offer the possibility to European social partners to have an autonomous social dialogue, negotiate on issues of common interest and contribute directly to the European policy-making process.

The European Commission will provide logistical and operational support to EASE and UNI Europa Sport for the organisation of the ESSDC meetings.
