Panel debate on EU social dialogue at the EU Sport Forum - 20th Sept. 2012, Nicosia

The European Commission will organise the EU Sport Forum 2012 on 19th and 20th September 2012 in Nicosia.

It will be directly linked and coordinated with the Informal Meeting of EU Sport Ministers under the Cypriot Presidency on 20th and 21st September.

The Forum is the key annual event in the framework of the EU permanent dialogue with the sport movement.

It will gather +/- 200 representatives of the international and European sport movement on the one hand and European governmental representatives and European Institutions on the other hand.

The Forum is organised in several thematic sessions. On 20th September, the event will be based on four panel debates involving high-level speakers.

EASE and its counterpart on the employee side, UNI Europa Sport, are guest speakers on the panel about European social dialogue in the field of sport in the morning of 20th September. EASE will be represented by its President, Marcel MARTIN.

The EU social partners of professional football (EPFL, ECA and FIFPro) will also take part in the panel.

The debate will be moderated by Jean-Paul TRICART, Head of the Unit "Social Dialogue and Industrial Relations" at the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the European Commission.

On this occasion, the European Commission will make a public announcement of the launching of the ESSDC for sport and active leisure two-years test phase.

Commission's Communication on Sport, Jan. 2011

The European Commission adopted a Communication entitled “Developing the European Dimension in Sport” on 18th January 2011 that flows from the European Union new role under the Lisbon Treaty to support and coordinate sport policy measures taken by Member States.
The Commission confirms its support to the EU social partners and announces the launching in 2012 of a test phase of 2 years of the ESSDC for sports and active leisure.
